After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Media and Moving Image in 2013, Mercieca embarked on a professional career in filmmaking, production design, theatre and visual arts. With a keen eye for detail, colour, form and proportion, coupled with capacity to imagine and visualise, throughout the past eight years Mercieca worked on a diverse range and scale of productions. These enabled her to continuously develop her creative and technical skillset. At the young age of 21, Mercieca spearheaded the development of collective endeavour, Imitosis; an interdisciplinary collective in media production. Passionate for anything visual, Mercieca has since taken on a number of diverse roles within foreign feature productions. These range from crowd marshall, casting assistant, props buyer, and stand-by props on major foreign film productions such as “The Obscure Life of the Grand Duke of Corsica” featuring Timothy Spall and Peter Storemare and set decorator and designer on “The Reluctant Madame Blanc” which aired on Channel 5.  

Within both film and theatre she has taken on the role of art director, set designer and production designer producing work for private companies, small-scale organisations/groups and national companies such as Teatru Malta. As a musician with a keen interest in music videos, she has worked with various bands as a director and production designer on videos such as Soap & Skin, Young Baynz, The Travellers, Joon, The Busker, Bark Bark Disco, Eyes to Argus and Fuzzhoneys, a two-piece band she forms part of). Consequently, in 2019, she was awarded national youth awards for Best Director and Best Production Designer by Aġenzija Żgħazagħ for the music video ‘Candy’. The latter and others such as Miles Away and co-directed productions such as Joon’s Music Videos ‘Whisper in my Ear’, Solastalgia and Ale’s Project which showcased in local film festivals and international online platforms.

In 2020, her capacity to lead artistic and production teams and to conjure periodic sets, led to her selection as the Production Designer on local feature film Is-Sriep Reġgħu Saru Velenużi/The Viper’s Pit. Mercieca has also participated in a number of training programmes on an international level at Pinewood Studios - Set Decorating Master Essentials (UK) and InterfilmLab (PL), Woodworking for Set Design, Props & Scenery Procurement (MT) as well as various talks & masterclasses with the likes of Eve Stewart, Yves Jeanneau, Adan Jodorowsky & Mary Kate O’Flanagan.
